Upon the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009 the European Union replaces and succeeds the European Community (Article 1 (3) of the Treaty on European Union). The European Union, with effect from 1 December 2009, thus replaces the European Community as Contracting Party to the Bonn Agreement.
